The diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents a uniquely complex set of challenges for families and the clinicians responsible for their care—there is no identified single cause, no known cure nor any one prescribed treatment that can predict optimal outcomes for all children. Raising a child with autism can add an extra $60,000 in out-of-pocket expenses—an amount that is unattainable for BMC’s families.
Since 2007, the Autism Program has provided comprehensive care to patients and their families by looking at all of the ways families may be in need of support and services in caring for their children. Through direct patient support, provider education and community-based trainings, the Autism Program assists and empowers those affected by ASDs. The Autism Program removes status and ability to pay from the equation, alleviating worry from the minds of families so they can focus on seeking the best possible outcomes for their children. High quality and comprehensive care is provided to all, and services are provided in a culturally competent manner.
