Dr. Erwin F. Hirsh Tribute

In May 2008, Boston Medical Center lost Dr. Erwin F. Hirsch, Chief of Trauma Surgery, in a tragic accident. In his 35 years of dedicated service to BMC, Dr. Hirsch left an indelible mark on our institution, trauma medicine, his patients and colleagues. Under his leadership, BMC’s Trauma Unit has become the best and busiest in the Commonwealth and is a model for Trauma medicine around the world.

To honor the life and work of our dear friend and mentor, BMC plans to name a suite in the new trauma center, the Erwin F. Hirsch, M.D., Trauma Suite. We are initiating a $1 million fundraising effort for this tribute. While we will greatly miss the wise counsel that our larger-than-life colleague and friend would provide in the planning of the state-of-the-art trauma center, having his name forever attached to a trauma suite will ensure that his influence will continue.

The mission of Boston Medical Center is unique and clear: to provide exceptional care without exception to the people of Greater Boston.
