Donor-Advised Funds

What is a donor-advised fund?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account administered by an external party that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with flexibility to easily support your favorite charities. An increasingly popular charitable vehicle, DAFs are an excellent way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals.

Creating a donor-advised fund has several advantages. You can make one larger gift to a DAF and then recommend grants to Boston Medical Center and other nonprofits. You can use the “DAF Direct” tool on this page or contact your DAF provider directly to make a grant. We will acknowledge your generous gift as a DAF distribution.

How do donor-advised funds work?

  1. You make an initial, irrevocable gift of cash or stock to fund a DAF at a sponsoring organization.
  2. The assets in your DAF grow tax-free.
  3. You make annual recommendations on gifts to be made from your DAF to your favorite charities.

Please be aware the IRS places restrictions on pledges or event sponsorships paid by Donor Advised Funds. See your tax preparer for more information.

Why choose to support Boston Medical Center through your donor-advised fund?

When you make a charitable contribution to Boston Medical Center, you give all Boston families access to nationally recognized, equity-led healthcare. You strengthen our programs that reduce barriers to life-saving screenings, wraparound supports like transportation and food, and so much more so everyone in our community can thrive.
