On Friday, October 17, 2025, we were proud to be one of three organizations awarded by the Boston Celtics at its annual gala. Celebrating 75 years of social impact in Boston, the Boston Celtics recognized Boston Medical Center for more than two decades of partnership and community impact.
BMC’s Curbside Care program, our most recent partnership funded by the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, delivers care to moms and babies right at their doorstep.
After a video featuring Carole Moloney, NP, of BMC’s Infectious Disease Program, Melissa Nass, MD, Medical Director of BMC’s Curbside Care, and patient Evania Barbosa, Alice Cruikshank, NP, of BMC’s Curbside Care program accepted the award.
“Curbside Care saves lives through early detection of complications like postpartum preeclampsia, depression, and acute newborn illnesses. This care sets moms and their babies up for improved health over their lifetimes. Moreover, the feeling of being cared for — with your baby, right outside your home — is indescribable,” Alice shared in her remarks.
Special thanks to the Boston Celtics for this esteemed award and to the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation for their generous partnership and belief in health equity and BMC’s mission.
Supporting all moms and babies in Boston

BMC’s Curbside Care was officially launched in early 2023 thanks to a generous $1.5 million commitment from the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation. The program came in response to a troubling statistic: 40% of new moms at BMC never return for a post-partum appointment in part due to lack of transportation or childcare.
Data shows startling disparities between Black women and white women on rates of postpartum mortality, identification and treatment for postpartum depression, and breastfeeding duration.
Up to 2,100 patients a year benefit from a host of services delivered by BMC Pediatrics and Midwifery Service:
- newborn care
- lactation support
- post-partum depression screening and connection to primary care and behavioral health service
- weekly virtual support group facilitated by a peri-partum therapist
- blood pressure screening and monitoring
- food, diapers, thermometers, hygiene products, breast pumps, and more
- counseling on preconception health and birth spacing
- chronic disease management and referral
Curbside Care is part of BMC’s commitment to health equity and works to close disparities by eliminating barriers and bringing care directly to patients.
