When Flavia and her children arrived in Boston after fleeing political turmoil in Uganda, they found a safe place to receive care and begin to heal at Boston Medical Center. From health checks by our award-winning care team and healthy meals at our hospital-based food pantry to support enrolling in school and quality pre-natal care, BMC was there as Flavia and her family rebuilt. Today, Flavia works as a Birth Sister at BMC, providing culturally-responsive doula services to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the post-partum period.
